Instructions for Use
Improving IFU Accessibility and Readability
Redesigned an existing Instructions for Use for a medtech client to improve readability, accessibility, and alignment with user expectations while maintaining approved content.
The IFU included all required information but was organized in a way that felt unfamiliar to users, making it difficult to quickly locate and interpret critical instructions. It also contained color blocking and combinations that made the content difficult to read.
The unconventional layout increased cognitive effort and raised concerns about whether users would be able to reliably complete critical tasks during validation activities. While the content was accurate, the presentation risked undermining user performance and confidence.

Reorganized and redesigned the IFU using existing, approved content to better reflect natural task flow and common user expectations.
• Re-ordered content to align with how users approach setup and operation.
• Refined visual hierarchy through layout, spacing, and typographic adjustments.
• Improved scanability to support efficient task execution during real-world use.
• Maintained content integrity while enhancing overall usability.
The redesigned IFU was easier to navigate and interpret, reducing cognitive load and supporting more consistent task performance. The updated layout helped address usability concerns and positioned the IFU to better support human factors and validation efforts.
